Employment Pass
The Employment Pass (EP) allows foreign professionals, managers, and executives to work in Singapore. Candidates need to earn a fixed monthly salary of at least $5,000 a month.
- The EP is valid for 1 to 2 years and can be renewed for up to 3 years. Experienced tech professionals with skills in shortage may be eligible for a longer 5-year duration pass.
- An employer or appointed employment agent needs to apply on behalf of the candidate.
- For an overseas company without a Singapore-registered office, you need to apply through a local sponsor.
- No foreign worker levy or quota is required for EP.
S Pass
The S Pass allows mid-level skilled staff to work in Singapore. Candidates need to earn at least $3,000 a month.
- The S Pass is valid from 1 to 2 years and can be renewed.
- The candidate's passport must be valid for at least 7 months. The S Pass duration granted will only be up to 1 month before the expiry date of the passport.
- An employer or appointed employment agent must apply on behalf of the applicant.
- Employers are subject to a quota and levy for S Pass employees.
Singapore Work Permit
The Work Permit (EP) allows migrant semi-skilled or unskilled workers from an approved list of countries to work in certain sectors in Singapore. There is no minimum required salary.
- The WP is granted mainly to laborers and domestic workers.
- The Work Permit is valid for 1 to 2 years and can be renewed.
- An employer or appointed employment agent needs to apply for the permit.
- Employers are limited by a quota for their industry and have to pay a monthly levy for each worker.
Student’s Pass
Students must be accepted into an approved full-time course in Singapore. Part-time courses and courses conducted in the evening or on weekends are not eligible.
The requirements and procedures for a Student’s Pass differ slightly depending on the type of educational institution. The processing time is generally from 2 to 4 months for cases in which interviews are required.
